It was another fun weekend on the Emerald Coast. Friday night I attended the All Sports Banquet at the Convention Center on the Island. This is a yearly fundraiser and a lot of fun. Before the doors opened, I stopped in at Fud’s on the Island. I met Alan and Jackie there. Pedro took good care of us. Mark and Steve were going to the banquet too and they also joined us there. We had a few beers before making the short drive to the banquet. The banquet ended about 10 and I headed home.
Landshark steak!
Saturday morning Sunshine Cindy loaded up the girls and they went off dress shopping again. They went to Crestview and then over to Pensacola. It was a lot of driving but they did get dresses for all the girls.
The jelly being added to the PB&J wings
I headed to the harbor to meet up with Paul. He won our Crab Island Mambo football pool and I gave him his winnings. It was lunch time and the harbor was pretty dead. I walked over to Margaritaville. It is getting close. They had TV’s on and the downstairs bar along the walkway looks like it could open now. Only a few more days till grand opening. I then drove over to Landshark Pizza to have a few beers and some lunch. Brian was cooking up a rib eye steak. He had bought some and a regular wanted to try one. It looked and smelled great. The guy loved it.

Kelly came in and sat next to me. She works at Harry T’s but had a day off. Glen also came in. He looked rough. Turns out he drank an entire jumbo margarita at Crab Island Cantina the night before. He didn’t realize it was 64 oz of alcohol. He was feeling it. It was a fun time there with all us and Brian and Sue solving the world’s problems. I had the peanut butter and jelly wings. They really were good. A nice relaxing time at a local joint.
I headed back down to the harbor afterwards where I met up with Wayne at Crab Island Cantina. Alan and Jackie also joined us. I talked to Carlos and heard some exciting news about Southern Drawl Band. It is not finalized yet so I can’t say anything but if it happens, it will be big. I will let you know! We hung around there then went to the upstairs of Harry T’s. There was a beautiful sunset. Sunshine Cindy called and we all met up at Fisherman’s Wharf for dinner. I was surprised at how busy the place was. They actually had a waiting list for tables. We saw Missy and Chris there getting ready to get a table. I guess with the nice weather all the locals were out in full force.
Sunset in Destin
After dinner, Alan and Jackie headed home but Wayne, Sunshine Cindy, Tiff and myself walked over to AJ’s. We went to the downstairs bar to hang out for a while. The harbor was dead but there were a few folks downstairs. I am sure the upstairs bar was full like usual though. We finally called it a night and headed home.
Sunday was going to be kind of a laid back day. I spent all morning working on the Crab Island Mambo Mullet Wrapper for February. It will be published this weekend. I got a call from Dennis. He was in town for the weekend and he was at The Pointe. We have not seen Dennis in a few weeks so Sunshine Cindy and I grabbed a few cold ones and headed to the beach. Russ was there with Ginger. It was a typical Pointe day. Dennis wasn’t catching any fish but he was doing real good at drinking beer! A guy on a paddleboard came up to the beach. Turns out he was from Brazil but had lived in Destin for a few years. He was an interesting fellow. Some snowbirds wanted their picture taken. Just another day on the beach!
The Mayor at The Pointe
Sunshine Cindy and I then headed to Crab Island Cantina for some lunch. They were really busy because of the warm weather. Monica, Mike, Greg and Judy all came by to say hello. We ordered some food and it came out almost instantly. Our server Sam said they were told it was “for us” and to get it out first. Wow, I guess we are stars at The Cantina. LOL As we finished our food, Alan and Jackie walked up and joined us. Then Renee and her new man walked by. They had ate and were on their way out. A few minutes later Buzz and Brenda walked in with Steve, Dottie, Larry and Brodie all right behind. They joined us to and we now had a big party!
Party at The Cantina
Carlos came out to talk to us. He told us about the remodeling of the outside bar they are doing. It should be nice when they are done. We all talked about the upcoming Parrothead Chili Cook-Off. Looks like they have about 18 local restaurants entered plus about 8 individuals. This should be a great time as we raise money for Relay for Life. It will be at Harborwalk Village on Saturday February 22nd. $15 gets you a wrist band and you can taste all the chili you want then vote for your favorite.
Rusty at the Boathouse
Time to head home? Not quite yet. We went to The Boathouse to listen to Rusty who just got back into town. As we walked in we saw Brian and Kerby. Inside was Missy and Chris. Like Missy said, we all know the good places to hang out at. Bree took care of us. Gigi gave us a big hug. It’s like home at The Boathouse. Later Glen and Bruce also showed up. Locals night at The Boathouse. Rusty was usual fun self. He puts on a crazy risqué show. We love him. Finally it was time to head home. So much for a laid back day!
Okay, have a great week. See ya on Thursday!
