Destin Holiday Weekend

We just had another weekend of good times in Destin. It started off on Thursday night. I took Sunshine Cindy to The Crust Pizzeria for a Valentine’s Day dinner. While there we got to talk a long time with Charley the owner. He is a real nice guy. He is continuing to advertise on the Crab Island Mambo web site so we are happy about that. Sunshine Cindy had spaghetti and shrimp while I had a pizza. The beer was cold and the food was good!

While there we talked to several tables of tourist. Some were snowbirds while others were in town for a few days. They were all from the north and talking about the miserable winter they have had. We were getting ready to leave when one of Destin’s homeless drunks walked in. It was Red Dog. He is one of the more “outgoing” of the residentially challenged drunks we have. He talked about how he just got out of prison after 7 months. Yep, something I would brag about. Anyway, he’s back. lol

Sunshine Cindy and I stopped in at the Rotten Apple on the way home. This place is always busy now with locals. We didn’t know anyone there but hung out for a while. On the way home we saw Red Dog sitting on one of the benches on Mountain Drive. He has been gone a while because the cops will run him off from there now.

Where the Tipsy Turtle and Aloha Watersports used to be

Friday was a day to work on the Mullet Wrapper newsletter. It was published on Saturday morning. You can read it here: http://www.crabislandmambo.com/Mullet-Wrapper-February-2014-edition.html  Sunshine Cindy was on the go all day and decided to stay in Friday night while I went to the Parrothead meeting. My first stop was on the harbor at Crab Island Cantina to talk to Carlos about when Southern Drawl Band was going to play. It looks like Sunday March 30th will be their next show in Destin. I made it to Harry T’s for the PH meeting. It was kind of laid back. After the meeting I stopped in at The American Legion. Some friends went there for Karaoke. Then I called it a night as Saturday was going to be busy.

At the new Destin Margaritaville

Sunshine Cindy and I had a free practice dinner at Margaritaville on Saturday afternoon. We got to the harbor and parked by The Boathouse. We grabbed a beer from there and started walking towards the new M’ville. Tim from Blue Heron Watersports was at his booth. Tim just had a long new dock installed. He showed us the dock and we talked about the new O’Quigley’s that is going in where Aloha was located. The house is gone and all the trees have been cut down. This place really looks different now.

View of the harbor from M'ville

As we continued our walk, we ran into Ken who used to work with me. He is retired now. We finally got to M’ville. We had Wayne and Julie join us. They have done a great job with the building. It is wide open with windows everywhere. They have several bars with even a walk up margarita station. The food was good and the service was great. It’s pricy but they will do a good business for sure. The harbor level has a stage and great views of the harbor. It will be fun.

Stage at M'ville

After a quick stop at The Cantina we walked down to The Boathouse. Our friends Jan and Kenny were playing there for the first time that night. It was exciting as we had helped get Jan started. The place was packed when we got there. Rusty was still playing and he packs them in. Plus there was a diaper shower for Paige too. As Jan and Kenny were setting up a table opened up right in front of the stage. We had our home base. A big group of about 20 friends showed up. We had a blast and the guys did a fantastic job. Looks like they are going to be regulars at The Boathouse from now on.

Kenny and Jan rocked The Boathouse

Sunday was a "complete our wedding invitation day." We started with an early lunch at Kenny D’s. It was nice and relaxing there. The weather was perfect and it got our motors running. Back home we spent the rest of the day completing the invitation. That is finally behind us. It was a nice end to the weekend.

Fun times at The Boathouse

Today is Presidents day. I am off so that is why the blog is out early. Soon we will be off to M’ville for their grand opening. That is at 10 am and the place officially opens at 11. It should be fun. I will have a full report on Thursday. See ya then!
