Quiet week in Destin

It was a normal quiet winter week in Destin. There were no major news stories to report. But Sunshine Cindy and I did get out and about a little. Friday was my off day so I ran a few errands in the morning. I stopped in at Payne Chiropractic Center for an adjustment then I went to Barbary Coast for a haircut. The talk in Barbary Coast was how it seems like everyone is sick around town. It really has been bad this year.

Friday evening we had a Parrot Head meeting at O’Quigley’s. A big crowd was there to raise money for charity and to have fun. Charley and his staff took good care of everyone. I know we helped boost his sales on a normally slow winter day.

While at O’Quigley’s Sunshine Cindy and I gave our friend Bobby a gift for his birthday that was the next day. Bobby was right with me all season watching and rooting on the Browns. Cindy and I got him a Browns jersey for his birthday. He was thrilled and wore it the entire time at O’Quigley’s! So next season there will be two Browns jersey’s in Destin!!!

After the meeting we stopped at The American Legion. Judie and Kelly were going there for Karaoke. We hung out with them for a while before heading home.

Saturday the crew painting the house was there to pressure wash and to start the painting. We are having the house painted a deep dark blue. It is very beachy looking. It’s going to be great. In the afternoon we headed to Landshark as I have been craving one of their pizza’s. There was a good crowd in Landshark with some locals there. Pop’s, Jenn, Turtle, Tommy as well as a few others were enjoying the afternoon. The pizza was great and the atmosphere was nice and relaxing.

Destin is such a cool small town and it was never more evident than at Landshark. A local named Scott was there but came back in when he couldn’t find his credit card. They looked around the bar but could not find it. Later Paige came in to start her shift behind the bar and saw the card in the ice well. It had fallen in somehow. Pop’s had Scott’s number and tried calling him but didn’t get an answer. Paige said he lives a few doors down from me so she left to take it to his house. That is something you don't see in too many places but Destin tries to take care of its own.

Speaking of Paige…The Northwest Florida Daily News named her Bartender of the Month. They had a nice write-up about her too. Congratulations Paige!

Sunday we never left the house as it rained all day. It was a nice lazy day!

Some happenings around town…In Fort Walton Beach a few things are going on. The Landmark Center downtown is supposed to once again re-start construction. This project across from Publix was stopped in early 2017 due to an undisclosed fiber optic cable that was cut. This project has started and stopped a few times. Maybe now it will move forward.

Also in downtown Fort Walton Beach the old Staff’s restaurant and bar are reopening. Docie’s Dock bar is now reopened. Some of the old family has brought back the Docie’s name and they are trying to recreated the feel of the original. And soon a German restaurant will open in the restaurant space. I will have to check out Docie’s and see how it matches up with the original.

Last but not least the new restaurant on the island at The Boardwalk will be announced in March. This is replacing The Black Peal.

The big event this weekend is Super Bowl Sunday. Sunshine Cindy and I will probably just watch it from home this year. Other than that not much else going on this week. See ya next Monday.
