Sunshine Cindy and I went to Landshark Pizza on Sunday to watch some football. We didn’t know if anyone would be there since the Packers are out of the playoffs. We got there in the third quarter of the Jags/Steelers game and the place was packed. Donny and Bob were at the bar so we joined them. We were all rooting for the Jags. It was an exciting game with the Jags holding on for the win. If I can’t have the Browns winning any games the next best thing is the Steelers losing…at home…in the playoffs!
As the sad Steeler fans were leaving a big crowd of Saints fans were coming in the second game against the Vikings. Sunshine Cindy was conflicted on who to root for. She loves the Saints but being from Minnesota she also likes the Vikings. She cheered on the Vikings but would have been okay with a Saints win. But they didn’t win and lost the game on the last play. It was a 61 yard pass for a touchdown. One of those plays that you can’t believe you just saw. The bar went from rocking to silent in about 5 seconds after that play.
It seemed like all the locals were out for the games. Tommy joined us for a while. Kerby was there and we talked with him to catch up on what he has been doing. There were a bunch of others we saw and said hi to. The small town feel of Destin was in full force.
I do have to mention this lady who was a Saints fan who SCREAMED during the entire game. It was a high pitch SCREAM that seemed to never stop. “Drew…Drew…Drew…” was SCREAMED over and over and over…you get the idea. She was even SCREAMING during freaking half time about what, I don’t know. Man she was annoying.
This past week saw Sunshine Cindy and I at O’Quigley’s on Wednesday for a Parrot Head board meeting. The ground work for the year was laid out.
Thursday I stopped at Crab Island Cantina on the way home for some takeout. I got wings and their Cantina Dip. Man their food is great. Friday we took Chaos for her yearly checkup at Airport Road Vet. Chaos is in perfect health I am glad to say. She even lost a few pounds due to all the running she does. Friday night was our first Parrot Head meeting of the new year at Landshark. Jan played for us and a good sized crowd had a good time.
The next phase of our house remodeling is going to start this week. We are having the entire outside of the house painted. It will look great when it is done.
Around town the Waffle House across from the harbor is closed. I don’t know if it going to be remodeled or if it is closed permanently. They have finally started to tear down the old Funky’s Blues Shack and will be building an Autozone there. And we see the construction on the empty lot next to ABC liquor is going to be a carwash. As I always say, the Atlanta-facation of Destin continues with buildings going up on any empty lot.
Helen Back on the island is closed for renovations. But our friends who live on the island tell me the word on the street is they won’t be reopening. Stay tuned…
Rockin Taco at the Boardwalk on the island was featured on the Travel Channel’s “Food Paradise” show. Our friend John Perry who is the GM had a big part in the show. Watching the show makes us want to get back to Rocking Taco soon! We like it there but have not been there for some time. Time to get back.
Have a great week. Hopefully it will start to warm up around the country. See ya next Monday.
Destin Steve
