Margaritaville opens in Destin

Monday morning was the official grand opening of the new Destin Margaritaville. No, Jimmy didn’t show up. His usual M.O. is to pop in unannounced after the café has been open for a month or two. If you are lucky to be there you will get a chance to meet the man.

A big crowd waiting to get into Margaritgaville

Sunshine Cindy, Tiffany and I got there about 9:30 am. We had a big group of Parrot Heads come out for the party. They let everyone into the harbor level part of the café where they had speeches and a ribbon cutting. I am pretty sure I bought the first official margarita. That can’t be verified but I am going with it! LOL  We had a fun time with our friends. Pictures were taken and some of our friends ended up on the evening news.

The crowd inside the harbor level

There was a long wait for a table so we went to Harry T’s for lunch. Joni took care of us. She was a lot of fun. We have seen her before as she has been at Harry T’s for about 5 years now. The lunch was excellent. Tiffany is trying to get on at Harry T’s and Joni said she would put in a good word for her. It must have worked as Tiffany got the job.

Tonya and a friend

Wayne came up and joined us as we walked down to Crab Island Cantina. Some of the ladies from Harborwalk Village were there having lunch. They had taken our picture at Margaritaville and recognized us. It turns out we all kind of knew each other. They are making sure all the plans for the Chili Cook-Off on Saturday are completed. Mike was working the bar. Judy was there. They had a decent lunch crowd as it was a wonderful day. We made a trip back to Margaritaville and the second story Chill Bar. Alan and Jackie joined us too. Drinks are expensive but you are paying for the view. We had a good time people watching.

The Chill Bar

Wayne headed home but the rest of us went to Landshark Pizza for a while. Brian was working. Jason was coming on for the evening. We had some dinner and chatted with some of the others that were there. It was a fun day and I was glad I had the day off for the holiday.

The rest of the week was spent working on the wedding invites. They are done! The next project we have to do is our Crab Island Mambo “MAMBO MEMBER” cards we are designing. These will be free and will entitle the holder to get 15% off their bill at Crab Island Cantina during our “Embrace the Chaos! Trop Rock Music Series at The Cantina” that will be held the third Friday of each month starting in March. The Trop Rock Junkies will be the musical act that night. Put March 21, 2014 on your calendar and join us on at The Cantina.

Landshark Bar on the third floor was closed but Sunshine Cindy took a look

Some new restaurants are going to be opening soon. In Mary Ester, a Hot Head Burritos will be opening. They call this a Fast Serve Mexican restaurant. In Fort Walton a Panda Express is opening. This is a Chinese fast food chain. The new Mexican restaurant on Hwy. 98 across from Olive Garden is now open. And last but not least a new Donut Hole is opening near Rosemary Beach at the east end of Hwy. 30A at the intersection of Hwy. 98.

This Saturday is the Emerald Coast Parrot Head club’s 9th Annual Memorial Chili Cook-Off. It is being held in Harborwalk Village. It looks like about 25 total restaurants and individuals will be entered. They will also have live music and Crab Island Cantina will have their Tamale/Tequila contest. The fun starts at noon. Wrist bands to take part in the tasting will be $15 the day of the event. All proceeds go to Relay for Life.
