Chaos Crawl Weekend

We had a fantastic weekend in Destin. The weather was perfect and the events were fun. It started on Thursday night. Sunshine Cindy and I loaded up the wagon and walked over to the Mattie Kelly Arts Center for a concert. They have a beautiful open field and a great stage. We were amazed at all the people that were there. We had our fold up chairs, our cooler and we had a fun time.

Mattie Kelly Arts Center Destin

Friday while Sunshine Cindy was working I headed out for a while. I stopped in at Landshark Pizza to hear some of Brian’s and Sue’s stories from their trip to Germany. They had a great time but were still fighting some jet lag. I then went to the harbor. I stopped in at Crab Island Cantina. Greg was working and there was a tourist couple from Arkansas at the bar. They were a hoot. Their first vacation without their kids and they were enjoying themselves. I left and walked to The Boathouse. Kerby was there hanging out. A good crowd was there for an afternoon. Kelly Bryd was playing so it was a fun time.

After Sunshine Cindy got home from work we stopped in at Sago Sports Bar. We sat at the outside bar since it was so nice out. Tommy was there and a decent crowd was watching the Braves baseball game. We ordered a pizza. It was excellent. It’s a New York style and tasted great. We hung around for a while then called it a night.

Getting ready for the pub crawl

Saturday was our big Crab Island Mambo “Chaos Crawl” pub crawl. We ended up with about 17 total folks “Crawling” with us. We started at Crab Island Cantina. From there we went to the Crazy Lobster and then to Fishheads. After a stop at AJ’s we went to the Monkey Bar and finally ended at The Boathouse. Big thanks to Carlos at the Cantina, Melissa at Fishheads and Gigi at The Boathouse for making us feel special and welcome. Gigi especially went above and beyond. Be sure to stop in at all of these places. We were able to raise $103.80 for Caring and Sharing. We are glad to be able to help them out as this organization does a lot of good in the community.

A fun "Chaos Crawl"

Sunday was a nice relaxing day as wound down from the “Chaos Crawl.” I took a long bike ride in the morning along the beach. It was clear and cool out. Perfect for a bike ride of about 9 miles. In the afternoon Sunshine Cindy and I headed to Landshark Pizza. They were having a special on Brats and Oktoberfest beer. Brian had the Brats flown in from Milwaukee so I knew they had to be good. Sunshine Cindy and I both had one. They were great and so was the beer.

A perfect Destin day

I got to watch the end of the Browns game as they won again. They are tied for first! After the game ended and we finished our Brats, we went and sat outside enjoying a perfect late afternoon. Brian come out to join us and B came and also sat with us. Brian has a TV in the window so we could still watch some football. We could not ask for a better way to end the weekend!

Have a great week. See ya Thursday!

Rotolo’s in Destin is closing

There is actually a hint of fall in the air in Destin. We are getting into the upper 60’s at night now. I love it hot so this is not great news for me but most other people like it.

Kenny got "silly stringed" at his party

This week I headed to KC’s Sandbar in Fort Walton Beach on Tuesday for our good friend Kenny’s birthday. Tommy and Loujean put the word out about a surprise party. It was a lot of fun. There were quite a few people show up too. Kenny is well liked in town. Even a major thunderstorm could not slow things down. As I drove over you could see the storm rolling in off the gulf. Lightning was everywhere. It looked like I was going into the floorboards of hell. About 30 minutes after I got to KC’s it started to rain. It was a major thunderstorm blowing over tables with lightning that kept us all ducking.

After about 45 minutes the rain died down so I headed home. The lightning was still intense. It felt like being in a horror movie the way the dark sky was lighting up. It was eerie as bolts were coming down all over the place. Luckily it did not last and everything was fine later.

Scotty with Kenny

Wednesday Sunshine Cindy and I stopped in at Rotolo’s. We had not been there in a while. As soon as we walked in I knew something was wrong. No one was there to seat anyone and it seemed like they only had two people working in the entire place with one of them being Berg the manager. He saw us and came out to greet us. When we asked how they were doing he told us they were closing the doors on Sunday. They just could not make it in the competitive Destin restaurant scene. It’s too bad but not real surprising. They could never really connect with the locals. I am not sure why as they had great locals prices, a nice building and Yuengling Light beer!

Berg did tell us the parent company has bought a Hurricane Bar and Grill franchise and will be opening soon in Bluewater Bay in Niceville. If they can get the locals they will have a chance to make it. There are not many options for wings and such in that area so I wish them well.

Prepping for the "Chaos Crawl"

We also found out what the new building in front of Winn Dixie will be. There will be three tenants there….another T-Shirt shop (like we need another one), a Jimmy Johns sandwich shop and a car wash. Yes, a car wash! Now there is a combination that I would never have guessed would go together. LOL

This Saturday we are having our “1st Annual Chaos Crawl” to benefit Caring and Sharing. This harbor pub crawl is open to everyone. It will start at 4 pm at Crab Island Cantina in Harborwalk Village. No fee to join us but we will be passing the hat for Caring and Sharing. We will “Chaos Crawl” down the harbor to The Boathouse. We hope everyone will come out and join us. You can read about the details here in the Crab Island Mambo Weekend Update. http://www.crabislandmambo.com/Weekend-Update.html

Sunshine Cindy and Wayne prepped for the "Chaos Crawl" too!

Have a great weekend. A full report on the Chaos Crawl and all the weekend fun on Monday. See ya then!

Destin Margaritaville

Well, the rain returned to Destin this weekend. We had pretty strong storms on and off both days. But that only slowed us down a little. Thursday night Sunshine Cindy and I went Sago Sports Bar to relax a little after work. We sat at the outside bar where Stephanie was working. A good crowd was out there as well as inside. The Clemson football game was on and a big group of Clemson fans were in front of the 100 inch TV’s watching the game. We had some food and a few beers. Tommy stopped by as he was busy keeping up with what game to put on what TV! LOL Every time we stop in at Sago it seems like a big family reunion. We love the place.

Stephanie at Sago

Friday night we wanted to head to Panama City Beach to hear Jan play for the Panama City PHC but by the time we got off work, it was too late to make the drive. Reports are Jan and Kenny did a fantastic job but then I knew they would.

Sunshine Cindy and I headed to harbor. Wayne joined us. First stop was the Monkey Bar. We thought JB was playing but he wasn’t. We had a beer and then we headed to The Boathouse. The place was pretty full with mostly older folks. Are the snowbirds coming in already? We stayed for a while listening to Jason Clark play. All our friends on the staff greeted us. This is another place that feels like family.

We left to walk the harbor. First stop was a new place right under the zip line tower. Fishheads opened up a few months ago. This was our first stop there. One of the owners, Melissa was behind the bar with Emily. We talked to them for while about getting started and how they were doing. We told Melissa we would stop by on our “Chaos Crawl” pub crawl next Saturday. It was a nice place that also had liquor so they should do well.

Our local friends at Crab Island Cantina

Moving again we headed to Crab Island Cantina. Judy was sitting at the entrance. First thing she asked was where her Sugar Daddy Joe was. Last week when Joe was in town he joked with Judy that he would be her Sugar Daddy. It cracked us all up. Dominic was just getting off work and he sat with us. A local couple sat at the bar. They had not been there before. They were looking for some friends who are Korean. They joked the Korea Mafia was going to show up. Well, only one did but everyone had a fun time.

Time to move on again. Dominic joined us as we stopped in at Harry T’s. We wanted to hear Flash Flood but they were not playing so we kept moving to listen to Ronnie at AJ’s. No joy there either as Ronnie was closing down for the night. Upstairs to the AJ’s Club Bimini. The place was packed with young people. We found a place to hang out for a while. Time to head out with one last stop at Waffle House for a late night snack. As we walked in Norma and Phil were there. Phil had sang a few songs at The Boathouse. We must have just missed him. We all talked as we wound down for the evening.

Ace's birthday

Saturday was rainy. Matt was having a birthday party for Ace. He is turning 5. Sunshine Cindy and I went. It was like a Tipsy Turtle reunion. It was a nice way to spend the afternoon. When we left we stopped in at a new place called Island Wing Company. The food we had was good. The service was good. We had another Stephanie wait on us and she was right on top of things. They had a full beer menu of about 50 beers on tap but I thought they would have more craft beers instead of all the Bud brands and a few craft beers. It’s a sports bar but it was real loud inside as the noise echoed around. Other than that it was a fun place.

Inside of Island Wing Company

And on Sunday we rested. Actually it was another rainy day perfect for staying in for the most part. We did have to take the pooch to the vet for what started out as a teeth cleaning but ended up with having one tooth pulled. She was not herself for obvious reasons after we got her home. So we watched some football (The Browns actually won one!) and babied the dog. I was also able to do some Crab Island Mambo writing. So it was a productive day.

One last bit of news….the new Margaritaville that will be opening in Destin at Harborwalk Village is booking auditions for musical acts to play there. Auditions will be held Oct. 13-15th by appointment only. They are looking for experienced musicians or acts that can play a variety of musical styles and covers. If you want to be considered send an email to: destinlivemusic@margaritaville.com with a link to a website where samples of your music can be heard. We walk by the new Margaritaville all the time and it is really taking shape. It is going to be a big place with two stories overlooking the harbor. I have tried to see what kind of “theme” they are going to use but I can’t tell. Whatever it is I am sure it will be fun!

Have a great week. See ya Thursday!

Big gator in Destin

This has been a slow week here in Destin. Sunshine Cindy and I have stayed in so far this week as we work to get things done with Crab Island Mambo. One thing we got completed was getting our Long Sleeve Tee Shirts back from the printer. They had forgot to do the printing down the sleeve. We have the words, “Embrace the Chaos!” down the sleeve but the printer forgot that. All of the long sleeve shirts are back now and looking good! You can purchase your own Crab Island Mambo tee’s here: http://www.crabislandmambo.com/Crab-Island-Mambo-Merchandise.html

Sunshine Cindy with long sleeve tee

One unique item from the news this week was the gator that was caught and brought to the docks. I believe it was about 11 feet long and weighed over 400 lbs. It was a monster. I don’t know where it was caught but they brought it to the docks where folks got to see it.

There was more information about the house that blew up the other day. It was actually a car that blew up damaging the house and destroying a nearby boat. They have still not figured out why it blew up but do not suspect foul play. The house was owned by a doctor from Illinois. He remains in critical condition. A second person from Illinois was killed. They were from the same area of Illinois as friends of ours. I have not talked to our friends yet to see if they knew these folks.

Jan Patton

Friends Brian and Sue, who own Landshark Pizza, are in Germany this week visiting their son. They have been posting tons of pics showing a great time. Judging from all the pictures with them drinking I think they will need a few days to dry out when they get back home! LOL

This weekend our good friend Jan Patton will be playing in Panama City Beach for the local Parrothead club over there. Jan will be at Spinnakers on the gulf. This is a great gig for Jan as he gets to play for a new audience and a new area. He will do great. I don’t think Sunshine Cindy and I will be able to make it there for the show but we will be there in spirit.

Maybe we will have a good weekend on the beach!

We don’t have any firm plans for this weekend. Right now they are calling for rain Saturday and Sunday. Sure, rain on the weekend! No matter. We will still have a good time. Enjoy your weekend. See ya Monday!

Destin Weekend Update

What another fantastic weekend we had in Destin. It started out Thursday night. Joe got into town from Cincinnati. He was staying with Wayne. I met up with them at Hogs Breath. It was great seeing Cam back being the bar. He got a staph infection and almost lost his leg. He was moving a little slow but he is on the road to recovery.

We left Hogs and headed to the harbor. First stop was Crab Island Cantina. Greg was behind the bar and Judy was running the show on the floor. We hung around for a while enjoying the sunset and getting caught up with Joe. It’s been over a year since I had seen him. From the Cantina we walked down to The Boathouse. Brandon Day was playing his last gig in Destin. Ironically he is moving to Cincinnati. Gigi came over and talked to us for a while. We hung around splitting a bucket of beer. On our way out, Courtney came by and give me a big hug saying we need to stay longer. Next time…

Sunset view from Crab Island Cantina

We walked down to AJ’s. Joe had never been there before. We had a spot looking out over the harbor. At one point a Palmetto Bug (a flying cockroach) landed on Joe. I thought he was going to jump over the side of the building. LOL We made one last stop at The Crazy Lobster. They were closing up so we called it a night.

Friday was our big show at Crab Island Cantina with Jerry Diaz and Hanna’s Reef. As Sunshine Cindy and I walked up Bobby the bass player was calling out my name saying “there’s Steve.” Then Trey, the bands new drummer came and quickly introduced himself and told me he had a big problem and could I help him. He forgot his snare drum. Here he was on his first road trip with the band and he was not getting off to a great start. I went to work and was able to reach Binky, the drummer for Flash Flood and he agreed to rent Trey his snare. Trey was relieved and the show went on. And it was a great show. RO and Jo came from Panama City. Mike was in town from Atlanta with his wife and another couple. I have run into Mike at events around the southeast. He didn’t know Jerry was playing and was glad when he heard about it. The entire evening was great with a big crowd listening and dancing to Jerry’s music.

Jerry Diaz and Hanna's Reef

Judie and Kelly spent the night in our guest room so they didn’t have to drive home to Pace. Saturday we were all going to the beach behind Wayne’s condo. Jerry’s wife Mary and daughter Danielle stayed in town and they joined us on the beach. It was a relaxing day on the beach. Saturday night I stopped in at Landshark Pizza to get a pizza as we were beat. At some point around 7:15 pm a house blew up in Destin. I didn’t hear it but a lot of other folks did. It is being reported it was some type of tragic accident. One person died and another is critical. That is sad.

Fun on the beach

Sunday Sunshine Cindy and I went back down to the harbor. We stopped in first at the Tipsy Turtle. Matt was open so we talked with him for a while. Tony was there too chilling out. There was a new Art Walk show down by the zip line so we went to check it out. There was some nice things but it was hot so we didn’t look at the stuff for too long. We did say hi to Steve in the Hawaiian Ice booth. The Art Walk was right behind his booth so he was getting a nice boost in business.

Sunshine Cindy wanted to look at sunglasses. We stopped in a shop in Harborwalk Village. She didn’t find anything that she liked. She wanted to go to another shop. I went to the Crazy Lobster while she did! Jesse was working the outside bar. We had a good time talking with him as different folks came up for drinks.

Jones and Company

We left and went to AJ’s. Jones and Company were playing music. Ike was on the sax. They are very good. It is music that draws the older crowd. A lot of people were there including a lady who was 83 and wanted to dance with Cindy. After a while we got a text saying Julie was at the Turtle. So back there we went. Joe and Wayne also came over. Heather was hanging out. Matt had a TV with a football game on. It was a fun way to end the weekend.

I published the September edition of the Crab Island Mambo Mullet Wrapper Newsletter. It is a lot of work but I love doing it. You can read it here: http://www.crabislandmambo.com/Mullet-Wrapper-September-2013.html

Have a great week. See ya’ll on Thursday!

Destin happenings...

It has been a pretty quiet week here in our corner of paradise. Sunshine Cindy and I went down to the harbor on Tuesday. We went to Crab Island Cantina. We had some flyers for the Jerry Diaz and Hanna’s Reef show on Friday night to drop off. When we got there JB and Tami were setting up for Karaoke. We talked to them for a while before they got started. Greg was behind the bar and Judy came in while we were there. We had planned to only stay for a while but we ended up there for several hours.

First we talked to some ladies across the bar. They were doing a happy hour thing. Then Judy and Sunshine Cindy left so Judy could show Sunshine Cindy some things in the gift shop. About the time they got back a group of girls in a bachelorette party came in. They were wearing tutu’s and went into the area by the stage. It didn’t take JB long before he had them on stage singing. They were having a good time. At one point one of the girls got on some guys back. Not sure what that was about. About the time we were leaving the bride-to-be asked if I would take a picture with her. They wanted a “prom” type of photo. So of course I had to do it. Sunshine Cindy was having a good laugh. I think I am at that age where young ladies think I am harmless! LOL

The prom picture I never had...LOL

I spent Monday and Wednesday working on Crab Island Mambo stuff. The Mullet Wrapper newsletter will be published Sunday and that is taking up a lot of my time.

Destin Harbor

A ranking of the top 100 bars and nightclubs in the country recently came out. The top of the list is filled with places in Vegas, LA and Miami. But there is one local place that is on the list. AJ’s and Club Bimini is ranked at #40. That is quite an accomplishment for little ol Destin and AJ’s. AJ’s is located on the harbor and has been around for what seems like forever. It does not show any signs of slowing down any time soon either.

The new place in Ft. Walton Beach where Fishlipz used to be has opened. It is called Nauti Girls. They have girls roaming around in mermaid outfits from the photo’s I have seen. This is a neat place right on The Sound at the base of the Brooks Bridge. I will have to check it out.

Fun on the docks

Island Wing Co. has opened in Destin next to Winn Dixie. They are supposed to have over 50 beers on tap and a full bar. I will also have to check this place out too.

I have heard rumors of a sushi place that opened on the harbor down by The Monkey Bar. I was just down that way and didn’t notice it. I will go look around and see if I can find it. I have always thought a sushi place on the water down on the harbor would be a good idea.

Everyone is welcome to come down to Crab Island Cantina on Friday night at 8 pm for Jerry Diaz and Hanna’s Reef. They are past winners of the Trop Rock band of the year from the Trop Rock Music Association. Jerry and the guys always put on a fun show. The dance floor will be down and the Cantina will have drink specials too. There is no cover charge either!!!! Come down to the harbor and join us as we “Embrace the Chaos!”

A full report on all the fun on Monday. See ya then!!!

Summer finally arrives in Destin

We have waited for months but summer has finally made it to Destin. This past week and especially this weekend is what we have come to expect in Destin. It has been sunny, hot, humid with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms! It’s about time!

It was a busy time starting on Thursday. I stopped in at Sago Sports Bar to watch some of the opening NFL game. Tommy was there making sure everything was running smoothly. Zack was behind the bar. For football season they have a new beer tower. For only $12.95 you get 96 oz’s of beer in the tower. It has an expensive rod that stays cold and keeps the beer cold. It’s a great deal as that is equal to about 3 pitchers for less than the price of two. And no, I didn’t get one as I was by myself. Sunshine Cindy decided to stay in.

Beach cleanup

While I was there Dominic came in. He and some friends of his came over and sat at the bar with me. We had a good time watching the game and cracking jokes. One of his friends is now making pizza’s at Sago. He used to own his own place that got rave reviews. I am not sure why he closed but this is Sago’s gain. I will now have to try their pizza.

Friday night I went to Landshark Pizza for a while. Ken was there. He was going to work in while so he didn’t stay. Jason and Becca were working with Brian helping out. I stayed around for a while relaxing before I headed to the American Legion. I wanted to get some pictures of Henri the bartender. Henri is going to be our Crab Island Mambo Mullet Wrapper Bartender of the Month for September. Jimmy, Sonya and John were there to sing Karaoke. I got my pictures, had a couple of beers and headed home as we had a busy Saturday on tap.

Fun day on the beach

Saturday was our 4th beach cleanup of the year. It is a joint project between Crab Island Mambo and the ECPHC. It was a beautiful day on the beach. We got there about 9:15 am. We had about 30 people total come out to help cleanup and then party on the beach. We had a couple of thunderheads build but none made it to us. In the afternoon jelly fish started to infiltrate the water. That pretty much kept us out of the water at that point. They really do sting.

The party went on till about 4:30. At that point we were getting fried. Wayne joined Sunshine Cindy and I at Fuds. We wanted some place cool and to relax. You have to love our Destin beach bars where you can walk in wearing bathing suits, dragging sand and smelling of the Gulf and no one complains. We sat at the bar. As we were there the place started to fill up with Auburn fans getting ready for their upcoming game. By the time we left the place was packed. On our way out we talked to Peter. He is the GM and someone we have known for a while. They are doing real well with this new building.

Henri

Sunday was a kind of laid back day. Sunshine Cindy and I went down to the harbor where Wayne joined us again. We started at Crab Island Cantina. Kyle was behind the bar. Al the sax guy was setting up to play. There were quite a few boats in the harbor and in the pass. People were taking advantage of the nice weather. While we were there Jesse from The Crazy Lobster came in for some lunch. He was on a break and sat with us while he ate.

When we left the Cantina we stopped in at the Crazy Lobster. Jesse was getting off but we stayed for a while as I got my Abita Amber fix. Off we were again. We walked down towards The Boathouse but we planned to stop in at The Monkey Bar first to see what was happening. In front of The Boathouse we saw Jager and Kerby. We told them we would be back. The Monkey Bar was dead. We had one beer and then headed to The Boathouse.

Jerry Diaz and Hanna's Reef

Kelly Byrd was finishing up his set. We talked to Jager and Kerby. There was a decent crowd there. We continued to marvel at the great weather. Time to start to head back towards the car. At AJ’s Ronnie was playing. Sunshine Cindy and I decided to stop and listen to him for a while. Usually the crowd is so big there you can’t find a seat. Wayne headed home but we shared a table with a young tourist couple. They had just got into town from Illinois earlier in the day. We had fun talking to them and playing the role of a chamber ambassador. We suggested they come to the Cantina on Friday to listen to Jerry Diaz and Hanna’s Reef. I think they might actually show up.

It was a fun weekend. Have a great week. See ya Thursday!

Fun at Sago Sports Bar

Now that we are past Labor Day, Summer is unofficially ended. Now we turn attention to football and cooler weather. Here in Destin the cooler weather will still be about a month or so away. But there is still plenty to do around here. Tuesday Sunshine Cindy and I headed to Sago Sports Bar. We wanted to check out the new menu and their great Tuesday special of $1 for a domestic pint. You can’t beat that deal. Becky was behind the bar taking good care of everyone. Bert was sitting at the bar. Bert is having his 79th birthday this week. We see him at the bar often and he always enjoys himself. This night he downed about 6 shots of Jamison. The staff made sure he got back to his room safe and sound.

Beach Cleanup party fun

Paris was working the tables and she stopped by to say hello. We also got to meet Charlie. He just here from Sarasota and has a place at The Palms. He was a nice guy as was some friends of his. This couple also recently moved to Destin. I can’t remember their names but they were nice to talk with also. I know we will run into them again.

As mentioned, Sago has a new menu. It has a bigger selection to choose from. We enjoyed what we ordered. The portions are large and tasted very good. They will do fine during the football season with the new menu and the great drink prices they have.

Dante's 2012 "Welcome Party" fun

Wednesday was spent at home. I worked on some more Crab Island Mambo stuff. I updated the web site with new secondary sponsors for our 3rd Annual Welcome to the Island Party” that will be held in Key West on Oct. 30th at Dante’s starting at 11 am. This will be a great Trop Rock event. Everyone is welcome and there is no cover charge or fee to partake in all the fun. Click here for all the details: http://www.crabislandmambo.com/Crab-Island-Mambo's-Key-West-3rd-Annual-Welcome-to-the-Island-party.html

It looks like a new Condo is going to get built in Destin. This will be the first one since the market crashed. It is going to be on Old 98 close to The Back Porch restaurant. It will be right on the Gulf, be 12 stories high and have 16 units. Currently there are some old townhomes on the land. They will be tore down to make room for the new tower. If you have a spare couple million dollars laying around you can get you one of these units!

Jan and Kenny playing music for the beach cleanup

One other bit of news this week….the helicopter company that has been trying for over a year to get approval to fly from a space on Hwy. 98 is now officially in the air. There was a lot of opposition to the location due to safety concerns. It is on a small piece of land next to Longhorn Steakhouse. But after all the legal maneuvering has been completed they started flying this past weekend. It will be interesting to see how they do.

Always fun at the beach cleanup

This Saturday Crab Island Mambo and the ECPHC is co-sponsoring a beach cleanup. We will meet on Okaloosa Island at Beachwalk #2. The cleanup is at 9:30 and then we have a big party on the beach till whenever. Everyone is welcome to join us!

Have a great weekend. See ya Monday!

Labor Day weekend in Destin

What a wild weekend we had here in Destin. The fun never seemed to stop. It began Thursday night at Crab Island Cantina. The Southern Drawl Band was back at the Cantina and they rocked the house. We had fireworks over the harbor, a big crowd and a fun time till the early morning hours. We even had Jerry and Mary Diaz stop by for a few minutes. It was a late night but with being off on Friday, it was well worth it.

Friday we were back down on the harbor. Our first stop was the Tipsy Turtle. Dean from Louisiana was in town staying at Julies. They were at the Turtle when we got there. Wayne also joined us. We hung out there for a while then headed back to the Cantina for the Calypso Nuts show. We had another good night weather wise as the storms fizzled out before they got to us. The Destin Dome held. Robbie and Lynley put on a great show. We had another nice turnout of Crab Island Mambo folks as well as a lot of tourist who were getting into town.

After the ‘Nuts show we headed back to the Turtle. Matt and Mindy were playing to a good crowd there. Julie and Dean were now joined by Errie and Sofia who also just got into town from Louisiana. It was good seeing then all again. Matt was keeping us all entertained during the breaks. It was a perfect night and start to the weekend.

 The Calypso Nuts

Saturday was a pool party at Julies. Dean and Errie were cooking up fish, Boudin balls and a shrimp boil. Those two Cajuns sure know how to cook! Everyone brought stuff to share and no one went hungry. Jan Patton played music then Jeff and the Camaro’s took over. We had a blast. Thanks Julie!

Pool Party

Sunday morning we were moving a little slow. But we had to get the energy going as we had a Crab Island Mambo party at Landshark Pizza. Jan played for us. It was hot setting up but a nice breeze kicked in and help keep us cool. A lot of our friends showed up including some new friends from Wisconsin. James had smoked some pork and they had pulled pork sandwiches in addition to the usual menu. Brian, Sue and the staff at Landshark keep everyone happy. It turned out to be a great time as we “Embraced the Chaos!”

"Embrace the Chaos!" at Landshark Pizza party

Sunshine Cindy and I hung around for a while relaxing after the music was done. It had been a hectic four days and we needed to wind down a little. We ate and talked to Kerby and B who showed up. Once we got home, there was a concert coming from the Mattie Kelly Center. We sat on our porch and listened to some good tunes.

Now that the Labor Day weekend is wound down. Time to get ready for the new week. I updated the Crab Island Mambo web site with pictures and a video from the August events. Here is the link so you can see some of the things we did last month. http://www.crabislandmambo.com/August-2013-Crab-Island-Mambo-events.html

Have a great week. See ya Thursday!
